WHY TRUST US

People ask, so, why do you focus on walk-in bathtubs?

georageIn 2002, my life took an unexpected turn. One day, my Mother fell in the tub and broke her hip. I was not prepared for the downward spiral my Mother’s health went through following that fall. The hip injury set in motion what I now know to be a very common pattern of health problems that directly led to her dying in a nursing home in 2004.

I firmly believe the common sense law: Knowledge is Power! For me, helping an elderly or mobility challenged person live and bathe safely at home was simply a scenario I had not looked at closely enough. I didn’t have the necessary knowledge, until that is… it was too late for my Mom.

However, my 89 year old Dad made it perfectly clear that he had no intention of ever going into a nursing home. So, my challenge became "how do I help him age safely in his home for the rest of his life?" I had a new mission, and a deep personal passion for resolving this question.

I found very little help out there. Almost none! After three years of extensive research and study, I believe it is fair to say that I am one of the most experienced safety and aging in place consultants working with the elderly and their families in the United States. In pursuing my passion to help my Father, I traveled all over the US. I even went to Europe and Canada. I invested thousands of dollars and over 3,000 hours of my personal time interviewing seniors, their grown children and their caregivers; and researching ALL the products and technologies available.

Then… I wrote the book: "The Ultimate Guide to Bathroom Safety for Seniors." To get my FREE Walk-in Bathtub Checklist, CLICK HERE

As supported by a recent report from the Center for Disease Control (CDC), here is what I found to be most important for everyone to know:

  • - 1 in 6 Americans over 65 fell in the past three months, 30% of those were injured
  • - 65% of all hospital admissions for people over 65 are due to fall related injuries
  • - up to 80% of all people in nursing homes are there due to complications stemming from a fall related injury.
  • - the bathroom, and traditional bathtubs and showers accounted for most of these falls.
And here is a real kicker, if you stop to reflect on the implication:
  • - According to the Journal of the American Medical Association… seeking medical care is the 3rd leading cause of death in the U.S.!

Bottom line… avoiding injury is vital to living healthy and long, and your bathroom is the most dangerous room in your home!

I discovered that walk-in and slide-in bathtubs offered the greatest hope for helping seniors, and their children, find a solution to keep them living and bathing safely in their homes as long as possible. I decided to help get the word out about these Amazing technologies - walk-in and slide-in bathtubs. These products were the obvious first step about which to educate consumers.

So, how did I learn about walk-in and slide-in bathtubs?

I study every walk-in bathtub I can find, including tubs that are manufactured in China, Canada, and Europe. For every tub I investigate, I ask: How are they made? What works and what doesn’t? Why? What are the different issues resolved by the different styles of tubs? Are they ADA complaint, certified? Does that matter? What is the difference in all the tubs on the internet? How long until there are problems?

What I concluded is this…

At this point in time there are only three main sources for consumers looking into purchasing a walk-in bathtub, and generally speaking, bathroom safety. None are intended to educate you and help you learn your best options.

1. In-home Mass Media Marketers who rely on expensive TV commercials and national print publications to generate leads for their in-home sales force: To put it simply, "aluminum siding sales." This includes Premier Bathrooms, Independent Living USA, IndulgaBath, Therapy Tubs, Seabridge and others. They may pay for celebrity endorsements promoting average quality products (my opinion), and are frequently over priced (my opinion… but, if you talk to them, judge for yourself). They tend to be sold by high pressure in-home closers (my opinion of the corporate policy no callbacks, always sell on the first call), who don’t possess a depth of knowledge on all products and solutions. You can talk with these companies, but PLEASE don’t buy from them without at least checking out other resources, ok? For example, as of the last time I checked, the largest of these mass media companies will generally drop ship to your door a "supply only" walk-in tub at around $10,000, and installed prices were hovering around $16,000. While each company’s pricing may fluctuate, the question remains - for what are you paying??

2. Internet Marketers… such as Therapy Tubs, Walkin Bathtub Depot, Bathing Solutions, AR Wholesale, Independent Living USA, Glamour Baths, and many more too numerous to name. What can I say - beware, beware, and beware. You’ll find prices ALL OVER THE BOARD. From $3,000 to$10,000 or more. Once again, the issue is this - for what are you paying? Many tubs are of an inferior quality and have problems that most consumers cannot anticipate. You will be forced to invest $1,000s with little or no real information about the product other than sales rhetoric. Issues used to confuse consumers include "mini bidets", umpteen leveling legs, acrylic vs. fiberglass, in-line heaters, a gazillion hydrotherapy jets, rapid drains,… and so on and so on). It can be mind numbing, to say the least. I can teach you more about walk-in bathtubs in 15 minutes than almost any re-seller out there. So, call me, and then don’t buy a product from someone who knows less than you do.

3. Existing Indirect Businesses who sell other non-related products or services. These are plumbing supply houses, contractors, accessibility product vendors and others who have an existing business that is ancillary to bathing safety. They tend to locate one "walk-in tub" to sell, and that is their walk-in bathtub offering. Problem here is they are not educated about the products, do not understand the range of solutions possible, and frequently try to "sell" you on some traditional bathtub or shower because they are not versed in these appliances. They even tend to suggest that these "tubs are too expensive" due to a total lack of understanding of the issues the consumer is attempting to resolve. Not a knowledgeable option.

And finally, why did I start Bentley Baths, … The Amazing Walk-in Bathtub Company?

If you haven’t guessed by now, there was no one out there for a consumer to turn to for straight answers. Someone YOU could trust. Someone who arguably knew more than YOU DO about the decision-making process of choosing a walk-in bathtub

That is why I started Amazing. We are here to help. I have identified what we believe to be the best appliances out there. I know more about the differences among the various choices and why that matters to one client, and maybe not another.
